A Bidentate Iodine(III)-Based Halogen-Bond Donor as a Powerful Organocatalyst

Flemming Heinen et al.

Summary: This study presents the first application of a bidentate bis(iodolium) salt as an organocatalyst in various reactions, surpassing the performance of iodine(I)-based organocatalysts and approaching that of strong Lewis acids like BF3. Coordination of the bidentate XB donor to the substrate was confirmed through structural analysis and DFT calculations of the transition states.

On modelling disordered crystal structures through restraints from molecule-in-cluster computations, and distinguishing static and dynamic disorder

Birger Dittrich

Summary: Researchers classify disordered structures into static and dynamic based on multi-temperature X-ray or neutron diffraction experiments, optimize distinguishable conformations of these structures by re-combining "archetype structures" for a better fit to experimental data, and simplify disorder refinement. This approach allows for more precise classification of disorder and streamlines the disorder refinement process.

Modes of Disorder in Poly(carbon monofluoride)

Brennan J. Walder et al.

Summary: This study presents experimental multidimensional solid-state NMR spectra of Poly(carbon monofluoride) (CF)(n) and provides insight into the structure and bonding through density functional theory (DFT) calculations of NMR parameters. The research reveals that conformational disorder in the material does not elongate C-F bonds but weakens them, and also avoids platelet edges. Additionally, a new J-resolved NMR method is used to analyze highly fluorinated edge states, revealing topologically distinct edge features in the samples.
