Synergistic effect of oxygen defect and doping engineering on S-scheme O-ZnIn2S4/TiO2-x, heterojunction for effective photocatalytic hydrogen production by water reduction coupled with oxidative dehydrogenation

Jiaqing Liu et al.

Summary: A well-designed S-scheme O-ZnIn2S4/TiO2-x heterojunction was fabricated to achieve efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production via water reduction coupled with organic oxidative dehydrogenation. The synergistic effect of oxygen defect and doping engineering led to improved charge transfer and separation efficiency at the interface, resulting in remarkable H-2 and benzaldehyde production rates. The coupled reaction system displayed superior H-2 evolution activity compared to sacrificial reagent systems, with both water and organic molecules providing protons for H-2 production.

Boosting the catalytic activity of a step-scheme In2O3/ZnIn2S4 hybrid system for the photofixation of nitrogen

Jin Zhang et al.

Summary: A step-scheme photocatalytic system composed of In2O3 nanorods and ZnIn2S4 nanosheets was developed for efficient nitrogen photofixation. The In2O3/ZnIn2S4 hybrid photocatalyst exhibited enhanced catalytic activity compared to bare In2O3 and pure ZnIn2S4, thanks to the synergistic effects of photogenerated vacancies and a step-scheme charge separation mechanism. The presence of CO2- radicals was found to be crucial for the catalytic nitrogen photofixation performance.

Summary: Spatially separated loading of reductive and oxidative cocatalysts on ZnIn2S4 nanosheets was achieved through designing a ternary Co9S8@ZnIn2S4@PdS (CS@ZIS@PS) hollow tubular core-shell structure. This structure not only efficiently improved charge separation and accelerated surface reduction-oxidation kinetics, but also generated a photothermal effect to further enhance charge transfer and surface reaction kinetics. The optimized CS@ZIS@PS showed a remarkable H-2 evolution rate and apparent quantum efficiency, making it one of the highest values among ZnIn2S4 materials.
