Wheel-rail adhesion during torsional vibration of driven railway wheelsets

Fritz Trimpe et al.

Summary: Stability verification of railway wheelsets in Germany can be difficult due to the need for expensive and time-consuming test ride measurements. The relationship between torsional vibration and wheel-rail contact is found to have a significant impact on predicting the maximum dynamic torque stresses.

Adhesion Characteristic Slope Estimation for Wheel Slip Control Purpose Based on UKF

Petr Pichlik et al.

Summary: Slip controllers are essential for railway vehicle operation, especially when high tractive effort is needed. The development of slip controllers has been ongoing for decades, with different principles being utilized. A novel phase shift detection method based on an unscented Kalman filter has been proposed in this paper to address the drawbacks of the original slip controller. When the proper output of the UKF is used, the slip controller becomes faster, more reliable, and can work in cases where the original slip controller fails.
