Potential areas of spread of Trioza erytreae over mainland Portugal and Spain

Jacinto Benhadi-Marin et al.

Summary: This study identified key risk areas and potential corridors for colonization by the psyllid vector Trioza erytreae in the Iberian Peninsula, focusing on citrus-growing areas in Setubal and Huelva, as well as potential connections between Guipuzcoa and the Ebro valley. Future modeling studies should consider biological constraints and other barriers or corridors when assessing the spread of this vector.

Estimating predator functional responses using the times between prey captures

Kyle E. Coblentz et al.

Summary: Researchers have proposed a new experimental design and statistical analysis method to quantify predator functional responses by measuring the time between a predator's feeding events. Their simulations show that this method reliably estimates functional response parameters, and a proof-of-concept experiment demonstrates reasonable estimates of functional response parameters. This new method promises to expand the questions that can be addressed in functional response experiments and the systems in which they can be measured, refining our understanding of predator-prey interactions.

Trait-Based Variation in the Foraging Performance of Individuals

John P. DeLong et al.

Summary: Individual variation in foraging rates may play a crucial role in determining the effects of predator-prey interactions on communities. In a study involving wolf spiders foraging on fruit flies, it was found that there is substantial trait variation between males and females, but this did not clearly relate to differences in functional response. Body mass interacting with body rotations was identified as a key factor influencing foraging performance.
