An Ionic Cluster Strategy for Performance Improvements and Product Morphology Control in Metal-Catalyzed Olefin-Polar Monomer Copolymerization

Chen Tan et al.

Summary: The study introduces an ionic cluster strategy for controlling product morphology and improving catalytic copolymerization performance in the synthesis of polar-functionalized polyolefins. This strategy is versatile, enhancing thermal stability of catalysts at high temperatures and enabling the homopolymerization of polar-functionalized olefins. It also results in polyolefin composites with tunable mechanical properties, showing potential as compatibilizing agents for polyolefin mixtures with other polymers.

Organocatalytic, Stereoselective, Cationic Reversible Addition-Fragmentation Chain-Transfer Polymerization of Vinyl Ethers

Xun Zhang et al.

Summary: Tacticity plays a crucial role in determining the properties of synthetic polymer materials. In this study, a new chiral organic Brønsted acid catalyst was introduced for the cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers, leading to highly stereoselective polymerization reactions. This innovative approach not only produces high-quality isotactic poly(vinyl ethers), but also allows for chain extension to synthesize diblock copolymers.

Organocatalytic stereoselective cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers by employing a confined bronsted acid as the catalyst

Zan Yang et al.

Summary: The properties of poly(vinyl ether)s depend significantly on their tacticity, with considerable efforts focused on developing stereoselective cationic polymerization methods for isotactic PVEs. Current methods using metal-based Lewis acids have limitations on catalyst loading and monomer scope. A metal-free stereoselective cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers has been introduced using chiral confined Bronsted acids, offering advantages such as high efficiency, high stereoselectivity, and simplicity in operation.

Organocatalytic, Stereoselective, Cationic Reversible Addition-Fragmentation Chain-Transfer Polymerization of Vinyl Ethers

Xun Zhang et al.

Summary: A new chiral organic Bronsted acid catalyst, PADIs, enables highly stereoselective cationic polymerization of vinyl ethers without the need for metal catalysts. This process produces isotactic poly(vinyl ethers) with controllable molecular mass and narrow dispersity. Additionally, the use of trithiocarbonate chain-transfer agent allows for chain extension and synthesis of diblock copolymers containing isotactic poly(vinyl ether) blocks through a mechanism switch.
