Temporal Profile of Pneumonia After Stroke

Jeroen C. de Jonge et al.

Summary: The occurrence of pneumonia after stroke is associated with a higher risk of poor outcome or death. Pneumonia mostly occurs within the first week after stroke, with the peak incidence on the third day. The most optimal period to assess pneumonia prevention strategies is within the first 4 days after stroke.

Association between anticholinergic burden and oropharyngeal dysphagia among hospitalized older adults

Santiago Castejon-Hernandez et al.

Summary: The study found an association between high anticholinergic burden and oropharyngeal dysphagia in older inpatients, with patients scoring ACB of >= 3 points at admission being more likely to develop dysphagia. Routine evaluation of anticholinergic burden should be considered, with efforts made to reduce it whenever possible.
