Optical characterization and tunable antibacterial properties of gold nanoparticles with common proteins

Jessy Simon et al.

Summary: The interaction between three proteins (BSA, HSA, HEWL) and gold nanoparticles was studied using SPR, fluorescence, CD, TEM, and zeta potential analysis. The stability of protein-GNP complexes was greater than that of individual components, with HEWL-GNP being the most stable. Gold nanoparticles acted as quenchers, reducing protein fluorescence intensity. Absorbance increased with nanoparticle concentration due to peptide strand extension and decreased hydrophobicity.

Optimized Silica Shell Synthesis Surrounding Gold Nanorods for Enhanced Spectroscopies

Marina Santana Vega et al.

Summary: This study investigates the coating of gold nanorods with a silica shell layer, focusing on key parameters like pH, reaction time, and the ratio between surfactant and TEOS. The growth of the silica shell induces an optical shift of the localized surface plasmon resonance bands, which can be controlled and monitored using extinction spectroscopy. Achieving precise control over the silica shell thickness is critical for further functionalization and spectroscopic applications.

Single Molecule Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering in a Single Gold Nanoparticle-Driven Thermoplasmonic Tweezer

Sunny Tiwari et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates a method for detecting single molecule SERS signatures in reversible assemblies of trapped plasmonic nanoparticles using a single laser excitation, highlighting the critical parameters provided by the thermoplasmonic tweezer for this sensitivity. Additionally, the utility of the low power tweezer platform, including trapping a single gold nanoparticle and assembly of nanoparticles, is shown.

Synergistic Photochemistry of Alcohols Catalyzed by Plasmonic Nanoparticles and a Metal Complex

Varun Mohan et al.

Summary: This study investigates the chemistry triggered by aliphatic alcohols used as sacrificial agents in the photoinduced synthesis of Au nanoparticles. The results show that the Lewis-acidic metal center of the [AuCl4](-) complex activates atypical reactions, enhanced by the photoexcited carriers generated by the Au nanoparticles. This work presents a unique example of interplay between a heterogeneous photocatalyst and a metal complex, which may lead to new catalytic reactions.
