Recent Advances in Bunyavirus Glycoprotein Research: Precursor Processing, Receptor Binding and Structure

Ruben J. G. Hulswit et al.

Summary: Bunyaviruses in the Bunyavirales order have glycoproteins encoded by a single RNA segment that are cleaved into mature Gn and Gc glycoproteins. Despite extensive N-linked glycosylation and cleavage, these glycoproteins remain associated to the virion, forming an integral transmembrane glycoprotein complex. This review highlights recent advances in understanding bunyavirus glycoproteins, including their processing and interactions with host factors during cell entry.

New circulation of genotype V of Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever virus in humans from Spain

Lia Monsalve Arteaga et al.

Summary: The study found a new circulation of European genotype V CCHFV in Spain, indicating that CCHFV could be an identifiable cause of febrile illness with unknown origin in Spain. It suggests that CCHF should be suspected in patients with fever, liver damage, and/or haemorrhagic disorders, particularly in those with risk activities in the spring or summer.

Protective neutralizing antibodies from human survivors of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever

J. Maximilian Fels et al.

Summary: The study characterizes the human immune response to CCHFV infection, identifying neutralizing monoclonal antibodies targeting the viral glycoprotein. By mapping antigenic sites and utilizing bispecific antibody engineering, synergistic neutralization is achieved, leading to a promising therapeutic candidate for CCHFV.

Development of a Novel Multi-Epitope Vaccine Against Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus: An Integrated Reverse Vaccinology, Vaccine Informatics and Biophysics Approach

Muhammad Tahir Ul Qamar et al.

Summary: Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a severe viral disease with high mortality caused by CCHFV. A study proposed a multi-epitope vaccine (MEV) that covers 99.74% of the world population, showing high antigenic potential and no toxicity. The vaccine exhibited excellent binding affinity with immune receptors TLR2 and TLR3, suggesting potential for specific immune responses.
