Spectroscopic comparison of charge dynamics in fullerene and non-fullerene acceptor-based organic photovoltaic cells

Silvina N. Pugliese et al.

Summary: The study reveals the shortcomings of non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) in organic photovoltaic (OPV) cells, including incomplete exciton dissociation, rapid geminate recombination, and sub-optimal thin-film morphology. While NFAs show advantages in generating photocurrent through hole transfer, this advantage may be offset by higher disorder and sub-optimal thin-film morphology in comparison to fullerene-based devices.

Influence of reaction time on properties of regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene) by the Grignard metathesis polymerization

Isabela Custodio Mota et al.

Summary: The study on P3HT synthesis showed that reaction time did not significantly affect optoelectronic properties, but did impact thermal and crystalline properties. P3HT synthesized in a shorter time had a higher decomposition temperature and slightly increased crystallization temperature and crystallinity content. This enables cost savings by obtaining a polymer with suitable properties in a short time.

Reduction of Electric Current Loss by Aggregation-Induced Molecular Alignment of a Non-Fullerene Acceptor in Organic Photovoltaics

Kyohei Nakano et al.

Summary: Y6, a newly developed non-fullerene electron acceptor, shows superior performance in organic photovoltaics and improves efficiency when combined with electron-donor polymers. Comparison with a similar analogue, F8IC, reveals that the performance difference between Y6 and F8IC only appears at high concentrations, potentially due to the aggregation structures and exciton loss in bulk heterojunctions. Studies suggest that Y6 exhibits stronger suppression of exciton loss and non-geminate recombination, along with in-plane molecular alignment contributing to efficient exciton collection at high concentrations.
