A framework for assessing coupling and de-coupling trajectories in river social-ecological systems

Cristina Quintas-Soriano et al.

Summary: This paper introduces a conceptual framework for characterizing trajectories of coupling and de-coupling in social-ecological river systems. By analyzing two conceptual scenarios and linking them to empirical case examples, key concepts for understanding social-ecological system trajectories are defined. Additionally, a quantitative approach for evaluating the level of social-ecological coupling and de-coupling trajectories in other contexts is proposed.

Multilevel analysis of factors affecting participants' land reconversion willingness after the Grain for Green Program

Xutong Wu et al.

Summary: Understanding the postprogram land use plans of participants is crucial for the sustainability of conservation achievements. Individual factors like household income, ecological awareness, and employment changes negatively impacted reconversion willingness, while nonfarm employment had a positive effect. Regional changes in grain production and water yield also influenced participants' reconversion willingness based on individual characteristics. Suggestions for improving the sustainability of the Grain for Green Program were proposed based on these findings.

Integrating multiple influencing factors in evaluating the socioeconomic effects of payments for ecosystem services

Xutong Wu et al.

Summary: This study empirically demonstrated the impact of external and internal factors on rural household income, finding that local economy and investment were the dominant factors influencing income, rather than the Grain for Green Program. By improving understanding of pathways, suggestions were proposed for designing and implementing PES programs globally.

TRANSFORMATION OF AGRICULTURE ON THE LOESS PLATEAU OF CHINA TOWARD GREEN DEVELOPMENT

Gang He et al.

Summary: The agriculture in the Loess Plateau of China has shifted from food shortage to green development with the help of engineering measures, agronomic practices, and policy support over the past seven decades. The increase in crop production, ensuring food security, and raising smallholder income have been the main goals achieved through various efforts.
