A Combined Spectroscopic and Theoretical Analysis of Plasmonic Silver Nanoparticle Sensor Towards Detailed Microscopic Understanding of Heavy Metal Detection

Nivedita Pan et al.

Summary: Plasmonic nanoparticles, particularly citrate functionalized silver nanoparticles, self-assemble into linear chains in the presence of lead ions, leading to the generation of new LSPR modes. This unique self-assembled geometry, driven by the high interaction affinity between citrate and Pb2+, allows for the development of low cost, highly selective and sensitive lead ion sensors for industrial lead pollution monitoring.

Identification and Detection of Volatile Aldehydes as Lung Cancer Biomarkers by Vapor Generation Combined with Paper-Based Thin-Film Microextraction

Zhaoping Xia et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel smart vapor generation paper-based thin-film microextraction system for accurate and sensitive on-spot screening of volatile benzaldehyde. The system utilizes core-shell gold nanorod quantum dot-embedded metal-organic framework structures to achieve fluorescence detection and surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy quantification of the biomarker. Results demonstrate high accuracy and sensitivity in detecting volatile benzaldehyde.

A paper-based colorimetric chemosensor for rapid and highly sensitive detection of sulfide for environmental monitoring

Duc Anh Thai et al.

Summary: This study developed a newly synthesized chemical acting as a chemosensor for colorimetric detection of sulfide on paper strips based on the deprotonation mechanism. The chemosensor showed highly selective and fast response to sulfide, with a detection time of 10 seconds. The paper test strip can visually detect as low as 30 mu M sulfide.

Three in one sensor: a fluorometric, colorimetric and paper based probe for the selective detection of mercury(ii)

Emine Gul Cansu Ergun

Summary: In this study, a novel donor-acceptor-donor-type conjugated molecule based on 3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene and tetrahydrophenazine was used as a turn-off fluorescence sensor for the first time, specifically for detecting mercury ions. The sensor exhibited almost complete fluorescence quenching and changed color upon interaction with Hg2+ ions, serving as both a fluorescence and chromogenic sensor. Under acidic conditions, the sensor showed increased sensitivity with a lower limit of detection.
