A deep learning protocol for analyzing and predicting ionic conductivity of anion exchange membranes

Fu-Heng Zhai et al.

Summary: This study introduces a deep learning protocol to predict the OH- conductivity of polymer membrane based on its structure, achieving 99.7% accuracy in classifying different functional cationic groups and providing a powerful tool for designing AEMs with predictable conductivity. The prediction errors for different types of AEMs are within a reasonable range, demonstrating the effectiveness of the proposed protocol in assisting researchers in AEMs preparation.

Effect of water management in membrane and cathode catalyst layers on suppressing the performance hysteresis phenomenon in anion-exchange membrane fuel cells

Kanji Otsuji et al.

Summary: Water management is a major issue in anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs). This study identifies the problem and proposes two approaches to address it: improving water diffusivity at the membrane surface and using a hydrophobic catalyst to prevent water absorption. These strategies alleviate voltage losses and improve performance in AEMFCs.

Anion exchange polyelectrolytes for membranes and ionomers

Nanjun Chen et al.

Summary: Anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs) are considered a low-cost alternative to proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) for clean energy conversion, as they utilize non-platinum group metals as electrocatalysts under alkaline conditions. The development of high-performance anion-exchange polyelectrolytes (AEPs) has led to significant progress in power density and durability of AEMFCs, making them comparable to or even better than PEMFCs.
