Long-term analysis of rainfall-induced landslides in Umbria, central Italy

S. L. Gariano et al.

Summary: Analyzing historical records of landslides and rainfall data in Umbria, Italy, revealed changing patterns of rainfall-induced landslides in terms of location and timing over the observation period, showing a shift in spatial and temporal distribution of events. Recent rainfall events associated with landslides are characterized by lower rainfall amounts and shorter durations, indicating an increased susceptibility of the region to landslides over time.

A Comprehensive Assessment of XGBoost Algorithm for Landslide Susceptibility Mapping in the Upper Basin of Ataturk Dam, Turkey

Recep Can et al.

Summary: Landslide susceptibility mapping efforts have seen increased success with advancements in machine learning algorithms and the availability of high-resolution geospatial data. The XGBoost algorithm showed high classification accuracy in a landslide-prone area in southeastern Turkey, highlighting the significance of landslide susceptibility mapping for site selection and health monitoring of engineering structures. The main controlling factors for landslides in the study area were identified as lithology, altitude, and topographic wetness index.

Data-Driven Landslide Nowcasting at the Global Scale

Thomas A. Stanley et al.

Summary: The LHASA model is a global tool for landslide hazard assessment, providing updated maps of potentially hazardous areas every 3 hours. LHASA version 2 adopts a data-driven approach, enhancing the accuracy of the model by introducing new variables and a machine-learning framework. Through comparison with LHASA version 1, LHASA version 2 shows significant improvement in the global nowcast capability for landslides.
