Atomic-scale insight into the pyrolysis of polycarbonate by ReaxFF-based reactive molecular dynamics simulation

Qiang Liu et al.

Summary: The isothermal pyrolysis behavior of bisphenol-A polycarbonate under anoxic conditions was studied using ReaxFF simulations, which successfully reproduced the main pyrolysis products observed in experiments. The pyrolysis of polycarbonate was dominated by random chain scission, with carbonate groups being more vulnerable to high temperatures. ReaxFF simulations revealed reaction routes of various pyrolysis products and indicated that certain reactions like cyclic oligomer formation, hydrolysis, and transesterification were less likely to occur at extremely high temperatures.

Direct growth of graphene films without catalyst on flexible glass substrates by PECVD*

Rui-Xia Miao et al.

Summary: A hydrogen-plasma-etching-based plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) synthesis route is developed for preparing graphene films on flexible glass without the need for a metal catalyst. By optimizing experimental parameters, the properties of the prepared graphene films can be modulated to achieve transparency, good electrical conductivity, and better macroscopic uniformity. This research shows that direct growth of graphene film without any metal catalyst on flexible glass can be a promising candidate for applications in flexible transparent optoelectronics.

Atomistic Simulations of the Mechanisms of the Poorly Catalytic Mitochondrial Chaperone Trap1: Insights into the Effects of Structural Asymmetry on Reactivity

Stefano A. Serapian et al.

Summary: Trap1 is an ATPase protein that plays a crucial role in cancer development by overseeing the correct folding of client proteins. Through computational investigations, it has been found that Trap1 adopts a distinctive asymmetric closed homodimeric conformation to facilitate ATP hydrolysis, with a catalytic glutamate deprotonating water molecule playing a key role in the process. Additionally, tyrosine has been identified as the main mediator favoring ATP hydrolysis in Trap1, providing insight into the protein's reactivity and potential for developing selective modulators of its activities.
