Spatial relationships between ecosystem services and socioecological drivers across a large-scale region: A case study in the Yellow River Basin

Yushuo Zhang et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the relationships between ecosystem services (ES) and socioecological drivers in a large watershed area. It found that synergies among ES substantially exceeded trade-offs, with strong associations between crop production, livestock production, cropland, and population density. Three ES bundles (ESBs) were identified in the Yellow River Basin, influenced by land use/land cover patterns.

Impacts of land use and land cover change on the interactions among multiple soil-dependent ecosystem services (case study: Jiroft plain, Iran)

Fatemeh Adelisardou et al.

Summary: The study investigated the spatiotemporal variation of land use/cover changes in the Jiroft plain, Iran, from 1996 to 2016, revealing an increase in crop production and nutrient delivery ratio while overall carbon storage and water yield decreased. The research also found spatial-temporal trade-offs between carbon storage and crop production, temporal trade-offs between crop production and water yield, and synergy between water yield and crop production in the area.

Identifying and analyzing ecosystem service bundles and their socioecological drivers in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area

Mengmeng Gou et al.

Summary: Most ecosystem services improved over time, but soil retention, water yield, and habitat provision showed slightly decreasing trends; intensive agriculture and advances in technology diminished potential ES trade-offs related to food production, while the decrease in soil retention led to a decline in its synergistic relationships with water yield and nitrogen retention; three ES bundles were identified at the watershed scale.

Bundles and Hotspots of Multiple Ecosystem Services for Optimized Land Management in Kentucky, United States

Yang Bai et al.

Summary: Ecosystem services are essential benefits provided by the natural environment to support human well-being. Understanding and assessing these services is crucial for sustainable land management. Spatial interactions among ecosystem services were found to be high in Kentucky, with services being bundled into three groups and geographically clustered on the landscape.
