The changes in macronutrients and microbial community structure during the co-composting of white wine distillers' grains and potassium silicate

Huiyong Yu et al.

Summary: Composting with white wine distillers' grains (WWDG) was studied with and without potassium silicate (PS). Results showed that the addition of PS increased potassium content in the final compost and aided in the early fermentation stage. The optimal ratio for co-composting was found to be WWDG: PS = 10:2.5.

Heat potential, generation, recovery and utilization from composting: A review

Shiyang Fan et al.

Summary: Composting is an effective process for treating organic solid waste, and the interest in recovering and reusing heat from composting is growing. Current literature reviews inadequately address engineering aspects such as heat estimation, recovery, and utilization, so this study aims to fill this knowledge gap by providing methods for calculating heat potential, estimating heat production, and recovering generated heat. The study also summarizes the utilization of generated heat and identifies challenges and future research outlooks in this area.

Impacts of red mud on lignin depolymerization and humic substance formation mediated by laccase-producing bacterial community during composting

Zhiwei Jiang et al.

Summary: The addition of red mud can increase humic substance, improve lignin degradation, and promote the maturation of compost. Temperature is a key factor affecting the laccase-producing bacterial community, and Pseudomonas, Phenylobacterium, and Caulobacter are closely related to lignin degradation and humification in compost.
