Study on the differences in sludge toxicity and microbial community structure caused by catechol, resorcinol and hydroquinone with metagenomic analysis

Xiurong Chen et al.

Summary: The study investigated the relationship between microbial structure and sludge organic toxicity caused by phenolic compounds during the acclimation of activated sludge by catechol, resorcinol and hydroquinone. The degradation rates and toxicity of the compounds were found to be related to the microbial community structure, with catechol exhibiting the highest sludge toxicity due to difficulty in degradation and accumulation of certain secondary metabolites. The microbial metagenomic analysis revealed specific bacteria and enzyme genes associated with each compound, impacting the overall sludge toxicity levels.

Polyoxidovanadates' interactions with proteins: An overview

Manuel Aureliano et al.

Summary: This review provides a detailed description of the interactions between polyoxidovanadates (POVs) and various proteins, as well as their pharmacological actions. X-ray crystallographic studies were used to investigate the interactions between POVs and specific proteins. Additionally, the interactions of POVs with proteins related to muscle contraction, serum, oxidative stress, and diabetes were discussed. The modes of interaction for POVs include H-bond, electrostatic, H-bond + electrostatic, van der Waals, and covalent binding.

PtIV- orMoVI-substituted decavanadates inhibit the growth of Mycobacterium smegmatis

Kateryna Kostenkova et al.

Summary: Both decavanadate derivatives and decavanadate are more potent growth inhibitors of Mycobacterium smegmatis compared to monomeric vanadate. Spectroscopic characterization in the growth medium reveals that both the decavanadate structure and its properties play a crucial role in its growth inhibitory effects.
