A critical review on bismuth oxyhalide based photocatalysis for pharmaceutical active compounds degradation: Modifications, reactive sites, and challenges

Peng Gao et al.

Summary: Bismuth oxyhalides (BiOX)-based photocatalysis is capable of efficiently removing pharmaceutical active compounds (PhACs), but faces challenges such as rapid recombination of photogenerated electron-hole pairs and inherent instability of structure. Recent modification studies have focused on facet control, elemental doping, bismuth-rich strategies, defect engineering, and heterojunction to address these issues.

One-pot construction of Ta-doped BiOCl/Bi heterostructures toward simultaneously promoting visible light harvesting and charge separation for highly enhanced photocatalytic activity

Shasha Tao et al.

Summary: Integrating Bi nanodots with Ta-doped BiOCl nanosheets showed enhanced visible-light-driven photocatalytic activity for the degradation of Rhodamine B and tetracycline solution. The novel Ta-BiOCl/Bi material performed better due to increased light absorption and accelerated charge carrier separation, suggesting potential for further development of high-active BiOX-based photocatalysts.
