Design and engineering of whole-cell biocatalyst for efficient synthesis of (R)-citronellal

Baoqi Zhang et al.

Summary: This study successfully enhanced the catalytic efficiency and stereoselectivity of the yeast OYE2p towards (E/Z)-citral using a structure-based engineering strategy, leading to the production of high enantiopure (R)-citronellal. Docking analysis and molecular dynamics simulations revealed the working mechanism of Y84V, which showed significant improvements in activity and stereoselectivity in experimental settings.
