NAP-XPS as a new tool for in-situ studies of SMOX gas sensors

Benjamin Junker et al.

Summary: The development of near ambient pressure x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (NAP-XPS) has provided a valuable and powerful tool for spectroscopic investigations of solid-gas interfaces. By observing the changes in parameters such as chemical shifts, band bending, and valence band structure, the study on a Pt doped SnO2 sample using NAP-XPS at a synchrotron highlights the potential of this method in gas sensor research. Furthermore, DC resistance measurements have shown that the electronic characteristics and surface composition under NAP-XPS conditions are different from those at atmospheric pressure.

Atomistic Descriptions of Gas-Surface Interactions on Tin Dioxide

Stefan Kucharski et al.

Summary: Historically, gas sensing literature has focused on the mechanisms of oxygen species adsorbed from the ambient atmosphere, but the actual representation and adsorption site are often not well described. Recent advancements in computational modeling and experimental surface science have shed light on the interactions between oxygen and other species on the surface of SnO2, offering insights for future materials design and optimization.
