Early development of the Neotropical fish known as long sardine Triportheus auritus (Valenciennes 1850) (Characiformes, Triportheidae)

Ruineris Almada Cajado et al.

Summary: The study described larvae and juveniles of long sardine from the lower Amazon river, evaluating ontogenetic changes in their external morphology, pigmentation, fin development, morphometry, and meristics. The study found that a combination of body shape, pigmentation pattern, fin formation sequence, and other characteristics can help differentiate T.auritus from other congeneric species.
