Validation of Australian and Victorian guidelines for colonoscopy triage

Jon D. Emery et al.

Summary: Managing the increasing demand for colonoscopies is difficult. The study aims to evaluate the diagnostic performance of different colonoscopy triage guidelines and the potential redistribution of triage categories. The results suggest that the Victorian guidelines could reduce the proportion of Category 1 colonoscopies without compromising conversion or detection rates.

Why does New Zealand have such poor outcomes from colorectal cancer?: the importance of the pre-diagnostic period

Melissa Firth et al.

Summary: The study highlights the high proportion of late stage diagnoses and poor survival outcomes for CRC patients in New Zealand, particularly among Maori and Pacific peoples. More research is needed on the pre-diagnostic pathways for CRC in order to identify facilitatory and inhibitory factors and implement strategies to improve outcomes, alongside increasing the uptake of screening programs.
