Exceptional Low-Temperature CO Oxidation over Noble-Metal-Free Iron-Doped Hollandites: An In-Depth Analysis of the Influence of the Defect Structure on Catalytic Performance

Isabel Gomez-Recio et al.

Summary: A family of iron-doped manganese-related hollandites, with the most active catalyst able to oxidize more than 50% of CO at room temperature, has been studied in detail. The presence of hydroxyl groups and Mn3+ content were found to play key roles in the catalytic activity of these materials, without the need for any critical noble metal in the catalyst formulation. Detailed structural analysis helped to identify the essential information about the oxidation state of manganese and the stabilizing effects of certain compounds in the hollandite oxide.

Greening Pathways for Synthetic Talc Production Based on the Supercritical Hydrothermal Flow Process

Edis Glogic et al.

Summary: Recent advances in chemistry have led to the development of a fast and continuous process for producing synthetic talc in a supercritical hydrothermal reactor, showing advantages in physicochemical characteristics and potential environmental impacts. Using life cycle assessment methodology, the study evaluates the environmental performance of the new process, highlighting the importance of precursor choices in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. Discussions also focus on comparing the environmental performance and characteristics of synthetic talc with conventional talc.

Synthesis strategies toward improved ordering of [MnO6] octahedra in tunnel structured 2 x 3 and 2 x 4 MnO2

Ryan Andris et al.

Summary: Improvements in the homogeneity of tunnel size in Na-stabilized 2 x 3 and 2 x 4 MnO2 structures were achieved by identifying and controlling critical synthesis parameters. Enhanced ordering of [MnO6] octahedra was revealed through a combined analysis of X-ray diffraction patterns and scanning transmission electron microscopy images. It was found that the crystallinity of the Na-birnessite precursor and the chemical composition of the system during hydrothermal treatment are crucial for achieving the targeted size of the structural tunnels with adequate uniformity.

Unraveling the effects of potassium incorporation routes and positions on toluene oxidation over α-MnO2 nanorods: Based on experimental and density functional theory (DFT) studies

Xiaodong Zhang et al.

Summary: The introduction of potassium species enhanced the catalytic activity of MnO2 for low-temperature reactivity and high destruction efficiency in toluene oxidation. The charge transfer balance ability of potassium in MnO2 promoted the activation of oxygen molecules and the formation of bridging bonds, leading to improved catalytic performance for toluene oxidation. Additionally, the presence of Brønsted acid sites facilitated toluene adsorption and the regeneration of hydroxyl species on the catalyst surface, promoting the degradation of intermediates.
