Mapping thalamic-anterior cingulate monosynaptic inputs in adult mice

Man Xue et al.

Summary: The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) plays important roles in pain perception and emotion, with the thalamocortical pathway being the major sensory input. Adult mice, especially genetically modified mice, provide important mechanisms for cortical plasticity and modulation in the ACC. Research found that cortical neurons in the ACC received direct projections from different sub-nuclei in the thalamus.

Distribution and overlap of entorhinal, premotor, and amygdalar connections in the monkey anterior cingulate cortex

Samantha M. Calderazzo et al.

Summary: The study revealed that connections from the entorhinal and dorsal premotor cortex are segregated in specific subregions of the ACC, while amygdalar connections are more evenly distributed. In the ventral ACC, entorhinal and amygdalar connections strongly overlap, particularly in A25. Meanwhile, in the dorsal ACC, outputs to PMC and amygdala are densely interconnected in deep layers.

Anterior cingulate inputs to nucleus accumbens control the social transfer of pain and analgesia

Monique L. Smith et al.

Summary: The study showed that mice can transfer experiences of pain and analgesia during social interactions, with the anterior cingulate cortex and its projections to the nucleus accumbens playing a crucial role. However, the social transfer of fear depends on the connections between the anterior cingulate cortex and the basolateral amygdala, not the ACC -> NAc circuit.

Contralateral Projection of Anterior Cingulate Cortex Contributes to Mirror-Image Pain

Su-Wan Hu et al.

Summary: The study identifies a circuit mechanism involving cross-cortical projection of ACC neurons between hemispheres as contributing to MIP and potentially other forms of contralateral migration of pain sensation.

High-throughput mapping of a whole rhesus monkey brain at micrometer resolution

Fang Xu et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new method combining primate-optimized tissue sectioning and clearing with high-speed fluorescence microscopy to achieve high-resolution imaging of the entire rhesus monkey brain. Researchers have also developed an efficient method for tracing sparse axonal fibers in large datasets, enabling connectome-scale mapping of large primate brains.
