A soft elastomer alternative to polypropylene for pelvic organ prolapse repair: a preliminary study

Katrina M. Knight et al.

Summary: Despite having a substantially higher weight, the soft polymer PDMS mesh had a similar impact on the vagina as the low-weight PP mesh. PP mesh reduced vaginal contractility and total collagen and glycosaminoglycan content more than PDMS, but there were no significant differences between the two meshes in terms of contractility, collagen fiber thickness, total collagen, and glycosaminoglycan content.

The influence of the protein bovine serum albumin (BSA) on the corrosion of Mg, Zn, and Fe in Zahrina's simulated interstitial fluid

Zahrina Mardina et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the corrosion of biodegradable metals Mg, Zn, and Fe in Zahrina's interstitial fluid (ZIF P) for the treatment of pelvic organ prolapse. The results showed that ZIF P was a good model for studying the corrosion of Mg, but not for Zn. There was insufficient in vivo data to assess the corrosion of Fe. BSA increased the corrosion rate of Mg due to BSA chelation, inhibited the corrosion of zinc, and had little effect on iron.

Summary: The study reveals that strong suppression of cross-slip at low temperatures prevents dislocation multiplication, leading to a dislocation starvation state, which eventually results in a unique failure process caused by the combined effects of sample dimension and temperature.

Evaluating magnesium alloy WE43 for bioresorbable coronary stent applications

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the degradation property of magnesium alloy WE43, and optimized the stent geometry through parametric studies using the finite element method. Results showed that WE43 with a secondary polycaprolactone dip-coating had greater resistance to biodegradation, increasing the stent's lifespan. Parametric studies indicated that a stent with honeycomb geometry and a radial thickness of 0.15 mm demonstrated promising mechanical performance.
