Photochemical mineralization of amoxicillin medicinal product by means of UV, hydrogen peroxide, titanium dioxide and iron

Stavros G. Poulopoulos et al.

Summary: The study investigated the photochemical degradation of amoxicillin and total organic carbon (TOC) removal in pharmaceutical aqueous solutions using UV irradiation, titanium dioxide, hydrogen peroxide, and iron. It was found that adjusting the initial concentrations of amoxicillin, hydrogen peroxide, and ferric ions could achieve TOC removals above 90%. Additionally, the presence of even small amounts of Fe(III) substantially increased TOC removal rates, with Fe(III) accelerating the process dramatically in the first 60 minutes.

Heat-activated potassium persulfate treatment of Sudan Black B dye: Degradation kinetic and thermodynamic studies

Sanzeeda Baig Shuchi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that heat-activated persulfate is a promising method for efficiently degrading water-soluble dyes in textile wastewater. By adjusting temperature, time, and persulfate concentration, removal rates of the dye can be enhanced. Kinetic study reveals that the degradation of the dye follows a first-order model.

Degradation of amoxicillin with sono, photo, and sonophotocatalytic oxidation under low-frequency ultrasound and visible light

Ansaf Karim et al.

Summary: This study investigated the degradation of amoxicillin using a novel multifrequency reactor with photocatalytic, sonocatalytic, and sonophotocatalytic oxidation processes. Sonophotocatalytic oxidation was found to be the most efficient method, likely due to reduced bandgap of the catalyst, enhanced cavitation effect, and improved mass transfer. Pseudo-first-order kinetics and empirical kinetic models were used to predict degradation efficiency, and scavenger experiments suggested that center dot OH radicals played a major role in the degradation process. Proposed degradation mechanisms and pathways for all three treatment processes were also outlined based on identified degradation products.

Sequential coagulation and heat activated persulfate-peroxide binary oxidation process for landfill leachate treatment

Emine Can-Guven et al.

Summary: This study investigated a sequential treatment of landfill leachate including coagulation and binary oxidation processes. The research optimized the chemical coagulation process and examined the factors affecting the binary oxidation process to achieve high removal efficiencies. The results showed that the binary processes were more effective than single processes, reaching significant removal efficiencies under optimal conditions.
