Can economic links explain lead-lag relations across firms?

Kailin Zeng et al.

Summary: This article examines the driving sources of cross-firm lead-lag relations in returns and finds that most of the relations are driven by classical factors. The article suggests that classical factors not only explain contemporaneous stock returns but also contain important information for future returns.

High-Frequency Lead-Lag Effects and Cross-Asset Linkages: A Multi-Asset Lagged Adjustment Model

Giuseppe Buccheri et al.

Summary: By introducing a multi-asset price formation model, we proposed a unified statistical test for lead-lag correlations and the existence of a multi-asset price formation mechanism, allowing for estimation of contemporaneous and lagged dependencies. Simulation studies show that our estimator performs better in recovering the true lead-lag structure of the latent price process compared to alternative approaches.

Revealing Pairs-trading opportunities with long short-term memory networks

Andrea Flori et al.

Summary: This study examines a deep learning approach to assist investors in identifying pairs-trading opportunities among cointegrated stocks, generating valuable signals based on LSTM networks. By comparing and combining predictions with trading practices, the study investigates the ability of the proposed approach to provide valuable signals under different perspectives.

Dynamic patterns of daily lead-lag networks in stock markets

Yongli Li et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the dynamic patterns of daily lead-lag relationships between stock pairs and identifies the power-law distribution as a key feature. It provides a formal definition of the lead-lag effect through statistical testing and proposes a new detection method. The study adds new knowledge to the financial domain and contributes to a deep understanding of the factors causing the emergence of the power-law distribution.

Can the Baidu Index predict realized volatility in the Chinese stock market?

Wei Zhang et al.

Summary: The study shows that the Baidu Index is a superior predictor of realized volatility in the SSE 50 Index, with predictability increasing as the forecasting horizon rises, but the long-term impact on volatility is less persistent. Continuous components enhance predictive power in the short and medium terms.
