Association between serum tumor necrosis factor-α and sarcopenia in liver cirrhosis

Ji Won Han et al.

Summary: This study investigates the association between systemic inflammation and sarcopenia in liver cirrhosis. The results demonstrate that serum tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) levels are elevated in liver cirrhosis rats and correlated with muscle weight and myofiber diameter. Furthermore, treatment with rifaximin reduces TNF-alpha levels and improves sarcopenia in liver cirrhosis. These findings suggest a potential therapeutic target for managing sarcopenia in liver cirrhosis patients.

Myostatin Inhibition-Induced Increase in Muscle Mass and Strength Was Amplified by Resistance Exercise Training, and Dietary Essential Amino Acids Improved Muscle Quality in Mice

Jiwoong Jang et al.

Summary: Inhibition of myostatin can increase muscle mass but decrease muscle quality. Resistance exercise training and essential amino acids work together to promote muscle mass gain. Resistance training increases muscle mass, while essential amino acids improve muscle quality.

Comparative analysis of the association between various serum vitamin D biomarkers and sarcopenia

Jun-Il Yoo et al.

Summary: The levels of bioavailable 25(OH)D were found to be significantly decreased in sarcopenic patients. Using serum bioavailable 25(OH)D levels to diagnose sarcopenia, a cutoff point of 1.70 ng/ml was identified. The incidence of sarcopenia increased by 3.3 times in individuals with bioavailable 25(OH)D levels below 1.70 ng/ml.
