Trends and clinical characteristics of 57.9 million COVID-19 vaccine recipients: a federated analysis of patients' primary care records in situ using OpenSAFELY

Helen J. Curtis et al.

Summary: The first COVID-19 vaccination in the NHS of England was administered on 8 December 2020. This study aimed to describe trends and variations in vaccine coverage among different clinical and demographic groups in the first 100 days of the vaccine rollout. By 17 March 2021, 36.0% of patients had received a vaccine, with significant differences in vaccination rates among various demographic groups. Targeted efforts may be necessary to address lower vaccine coverage observed among certain key groups.

Hiam Chemaitelly et al.

Summary: In a study conducted in Qatar involving over 900,000 participants, vaccine effectiveness peaked at 77.5% in the first month after the second dose. Impact and effectiveness of mRNA BNT162b2 vaccine against SARS-CoV-2 infections and COVID-19 cases, hospitalisations, and deaths following a nationwide vaccination campaign in Israel: an observational study using national surveillance data

Eric J. Haas et al.

Summary: This study assessed the real-world effectiveness of the Pfizer-BioNTech mRNA COVID-19 vaccine BNT162b2 in Israel, showing high efficacy in preventing SARS-CoV-2 infections, hospitalizations, severe disease, and death. As vaccine coverage increased, there were marked declines in SARS-CoV-2 outcomes, indicating that COVID-19 vaccination can help control the pandemic.

COVID-19 vaccine trust among clients in a sample of California residential substance use treatment programs

Carmen L. Masson et al.

Summary: Individuals with SUD in residential treatment programs in California were found to be aware of COVID-19 transmission modes, but less than half trusted the safety and efficacy of a COVID-19 vaccine. Factors associated with trust in a COVID-19 vaccine included age and consistent mask-wearing. African Americans were less likely to trust the safety and efficacy of a COVID-19 vaccine compared to White participants.

Public acceptance of COVID-19 vaccines: cross-national evidence on levels and individual-level predictors using observational data

Marie Fly Lindholt et al.

Summary: This study examined the levels and predictors of COVID-19 vaccine acceptance in eight Western democracies, revealing significant variations in acceptance rates among different countries. Lack of vaccine acceptance was associated with distrust in authorities and scientists, conspiratorial thinking, and a lack of concern about COVID-19. Most national levels of vaccine acceptance were found to fall below estimates for herd immunity, emphasizing the importance of building trust for health emergencies and focusing on personal consequences of infections in health communication strategies.

Mental disorders and risk of COVID-19-related mortality, hospitalisation, and intensive care unit admission: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Benedetta Vai et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis found that pre-existing mental disorders, specifically psychotic and mood disorders, and exposure to antipsychotics and anxiolytics were associated with an increased risk of COVID-19 mortality. The study highlighted the need for targeted approaches to manage and prevent COVID-19 in at-risk patient groups identified in this study. Further research is needed to determine the underlying mechanisms of these associations.
