Evaluation of formation and proportion of secondary structure in γ-polyglutamic acid by terahertz time-domain spectroscopy

Zhenqi Zhu et al.

Summary: The study focused on secondary structure analysis of gamma-polyglutamic acid using terahertz spectroscopy. Different spectral characteristics were observed for alpha-helix and random coil conformations. The results suggested that specific peak intensities can serve as indicators of structural changes and terahertz spectroscopy has the potential to be an effective tool for evaluating secondary structure.

Biomedical NiTi and β-Ti Alloys: From Composition, Microstructure and Thermo-Mechanics to Application

Adelaide Nespoli et al.

Summary: A comprehensive characterization of widely used biomedical Ti-containing alloys, NiTi and beta-Ti, was conducted to understand the relationship between their composition, microstructure, physical-chemical-mechanical properties and processing history. The results provided insights into the influence of alloying elements and thermo-mechanical processing on microstructure and phase composition of beta-Ti, as well as the phase transformation behavior of NiTi.

The addition of graphene nanoplatelets into epoxy/polycaprolactone composites for autonomous self-healing activation by Joule's heating effect

Xoan F. Sanchez-Romate et al.

Summary: Graphene nanoplatelet doped epoxy/polycaprolactone blends have been proposed, showing enhanced electrical conductivity and autonomous selfhealing capabilities. The addition of GNPs leads to reduced agglomerates and thermal heating effects, resulting in healing efficiencies ranging from 40 to 70% under the presence of artificial cracks. This novel material paves the way for autonomous self-healing systems.

Terahertz and Microwave Optical Properties of Single-Crystal Quartz and Vitreous Silica and the Behavior of the Boson Peak

Mira Naftaly et al.

Summary: The study confirms Z-cut quartz as a suitable reference material for measurements of complex permittivity at terahertz and microwave frequencies, while also evaluating silica glass. Refractive indices and absorption coefficients for quartz and vitreous silica were reported and compared with existing literature, showing previously unreported phenomena. Additionally, negative relationships between refractive index and Boson peak frequency, as well as Boson peak height and frequency, were observed for the first time.
