Numerical and Experimental Analysis of Fire Resistance for Steel Structures of Ships and Offshore Platforms

Marina Gravit et al.

Summary: This study investigates the fire resistance requirements of steel structures in oil and gas facilities under hydrocarbon fire conditions. Experimental research is conducted to assess the integrity and thermal insulating capacity of steel bulkheads and decks using mineral wool. The findings suggest that in hydrocarbon fire conditions, higher density thermal insulation and 30-40% more fire retardant material are required to protect the structures compared to standard fire conditions.

Material properties of clay and lime plaster for structural fire design

Liblik Johanna et al.

Summary: This research investigates the temperature-dependent thermal properties of historic plasters through material-specific tests and furnace tests carried out under standard fire exposure conditions. Results show differences in the fire protection ability of clay and lime plaster, highlighting the need for further research in terms of their thermophysical performance and standardization at the European level. Design parameters are presented and discussed for future perspective, demonstrating a basic research to plan and design full-scale fire tests according to EN 13381-7:2019.

Structural Fire Protection of Steel Structures in Arctic Conditions

Marina Gravit et al.

Summary: Structures for oil and gas production in the Arctic and Antarctic must be protected against cryogenic spills and fire exposure due to the flammability and explosiveness of the products. This article discusses possible structural fire protection for metal structures in the Arctic region, presenting three different fireproofing materials with a focus on those based on super-thin basalt fiber (STBF) as the most effective coatings. Tests on steel structures with fire protection determined the time to the limit state of samples under cryogenic and thermal exposure, with an assessment of various flame retardants suitable for arctic climate conditions.
