Novel Thermotolerant and Flexible Polyimide Aerogel Separator Achieving Advanced Lithium-Ion Batteries

Yurui Deng et al.

Summary: A novel thermotolerant polyimide aerogel (PIA) separator with outstanding porosity and electrolyte absorption is designed, showing significant improvement in electrochemical performance and stability of lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The PIA separators also exhibit higher thermal runaway temperatures for pouch batteries compared to traditional separators.

Preparation of carbon foam-reinforced carbon aerogels and their copyrolysis mechanism

Ruyue Su et al.

Summary: This study developed a copyrolysis strategy to prepare carbon foam-reinforced carbon aerogels with low thermal conductivity. The composites exhibited higher compressive strength than carbon foam components, with the commercial carbon foam-reinforced carbon aerogels after copyrolysis at 900 °C showing the lowest high-temperature thermal conductivity. The mechanism of copyrolysis of RF aerogels and phenolic resin foams was analyzed using XPS, TGMS, and Fourier transform infrared spectrometer.

Carbonization mechanisms of polyimide: Methodology to analyze carbon materials with nitrogen, oxygen, pentagons, and heptagons

Tomofumi Kato et al.

Summary: The carbonization mechanisms of PMDA-ODA-type polyimide heated at 1273 K or lower were studied, revealing the formation of isoimide and cyclic ether. Computational spectral analysis combined with molecular dynamics simulation (ReaxFF) was used to analyze carbon materials containing nitrogen, oxygen, pentagons, and heptagons. Experimental and calculated XPS and C-13 NMR spectra supported the findings, including the formation of pentagons and heptagons in polyimide heated between 833 and 1273 K.
