A case of monkeypox was diagnosed in a traveler from Nigeria who returned to Maryland, USA. The implementation of prompt infection control measures prevented secondary cases among 40 healthcare workers who were exposed. Given the global health implications, it is crucial for public health systems to be equipped with effective strategies to mitigate the potential spread of monkeypox.
