Polyurethanes from Direct Organocatalytic Copolymerization of p-Tosyl Isocyanate with Epoxides

Mingchen Jia et al.

Summary: The direct copolymerization of p-tosyl isocyanate with epoxides using onium salts and trialkylborane as initiators has been successfully demonstrated, producing polyurethanes without side products. This study holds the potential for developing new materials with unprecedented properties through terpolymerization with other oxygenated monomers and CO2.

Triethylborane-Assisted Synthesis of Random and Block Poly(estercarbonate)s through One-Pot Terpolymerization of Epoxides, CO2, and Cyclic Anhydrides

Vamshi K. Chidara et al.

Summary: Poly(ester-carbonate) copolymers were synthesized by one-pot copolymerization of epoxides with anhydrides and CO2 activated by triethylborane (TEB). The feeding ratio of anhydrides to epoxides determined the structure of the copolymers, with random and tapered ester structures observed. Terpolymerizations and block copolymerizations were compared in terms of the obtained copolymers' structures and properties.

Acetal-Based Functional Epoxide Monomers: Polymerizations and Applications

Jinsu Baek et al.

Summary: Protecting group chemistry is crucial for various organic transformations and polymerization processes, particularly in conventional anionic ring-opening polymerization (AROP). Functional epoxide monomers with proper protecting groups, such as acetal groups, have been developed for use as protecting groups under AROP conditions and pH-responsive moieties for biomedical applications. Recent advancements in the synthesis, polymerization, and biomedical applications of acetal-based monomers in polyethers have expanded their utility in functionalized polyethers.
