Adsorption of Organic Compounds by Biomass Chars: Direct Role of Aromatic Condensation (Ring Cluster Size) Revealed by Experimental and Theoretical Studies

Jingjing Yang et al.

Summary: The sorption affinity of organic compounds is directly related to the degree of condensation of the aromatic fraction, while the sorption energy increases with cluster size. This underscores the important role of aromatic condensation in sorption energy.

Time-dependent desorption of anilines, phenols, and nitrobenzenes from biochar produced at 700 °C: Insight into desorption hysteresis

Hongxia Zhu et al.

Summary: The study found that biochar can exhibit desorption hysteresis for organic contaminants, particularly for larger molecules like trinitrobenzene, which may be released more quickly. The structures of biochar, reflected in Raman spectra ID/IG values, influence the diffusion rates of contaminants. The time-dependent desorption hysteresis highlights the need to investigate the longterm release of adsorbed organic contaminants on biochar for assessing environmental risks.

Green synthesis of hydrophilic activated carbon supported sulfide nZVI for enhanced Pb(II) scavenging from water: Characterization, kinetics, isotherms and mechanisms

Jianhua Qu et al.

Summary: In this study, green tea extracts were used as a reductant for the green synthesis of nZVI with low aggregation and high antioxidation, which was further modified with hydrophilic porous activated carbon and sulfidation technology. The results indicated the successful preparation of porous activated carbon with microporous and mesoporous characteristics and effective loading of S-nZVI nanoparticles. The S-nZVI@HPAC showed excellent pH-dependent adsorption performance for Pb(II) with fast kinetic equilibrium and outstanding binding capacity.
