AIE-featured tetraphenylethylene nanoarchitectures in biomedical application: Bioimaging, drug delivery and disease treatment

Kothanahally S. Sharath Kumar et al.

Summary: The development of aggregation-induced emission (AIE) has attracted significant attention in both basic and clinical research. Various luminogens with AIE property (AIEgens) have been widely utilized in optoelectronic devices, fluorescent bio-probes, drug delivery, anticancer and chemosensors. Among them, tetraphenylethylene (TPE) derivatives have shown great promise as AIEgens due to their self-organization capacity and ability to form larger multi-component assemblies with aggregation-caused quenching (ACQ) fluorophores.

Mehwish Qayyum et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that AIE-based THTPE can be used for convenient and rapid detection of nitroaromatic compounds with a detection sensitivity of 1.0 nM through a fluorescence quenching mechanism. Interaction of THTPE with different analytes was studied using Gaussian software, revealing that nitrobenzene has the strongest interaction with the sensor molecule.

A sensitive and selective BINOL based ratiometric fluorescence sensor for the detection of cyanide ions

Sathishkumar Munusamy et al.

Summary: The highly selective sensor BBCN based on BINOL has been developed for ratiometric fluorescent detection of cyanide ions (CN-), showing a unique spectral change and color shift from green to blue in the presence of CN-. The detection limit is reasonably low at 189 nM, with a linear relationship between the fluorescence ratiometric ratio of BBCN and CN- concentration. The optical response is due to the nucleophilic addition of CN- to the dicyanovinyl group of the sensor, compromising the intramolecular charge transfer.

Review on new horizons of aggregation induced emission: from design to development

Suman G. R. et al.

Summary: The phenomenon of aggregation induced emission (AIE) has significantly changed the perception towards conventional photophysical phenomena and proved to be promising candidates for biosensors, opto-electronics, and energy applications due to the high quantum yield and tunable emission properties of AIE luminogens (AIEgens). The excellent stimuli responsiveness of AIEgens provides them with a key edge for sensitive measurements, making them valuable tools for applications such as intracellular temperature and pH sensing.
