Naphthol based positional isomers of ferrocene appended benzochromene: Differential selectivity towards Hg(II) ion

Sushil Ranjan Bhatta et al.

Summary: A series of positional isomers based on ferrocene appended benzochromene derivative were designed and synthesized through a click with MCRs strategy. The beta isomer, compound 4, exhibited higher selectivity and sensitivity towards Hg2+ ions compared to the alpha isomer, compound 2, due to cation-pi interaction with the naphthol ring. The compounds also showed color changes upon addition of Fe-3+ and Cu2+ ions, and the binding mode was confirmed through H-1 NMR titration study.

Universal quenching of common fluorescent probes by water and alcohols

Jimmy Maillard et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that water acts as a classic fluorescence quencher for organic fluorophores, reducing their fluorescence quantum yield and lifetime significantly. The fluorescence quenching is found to be more efficient for red-emitting probes and is attributed to high-energy vibrations of the solvent. Understanding this solvent-assisted quenching mechanism could lead to the rational design of brighter fluorescent probes by protecting organic fluorophores from the solvent.

A dual-emitting mixed-lanthanide MOF with high water-stability for ratiometric fluorescence sensing of Fe3+ and ascorbic acid

Haihuan Yu et al.

Summary: The study introduces a dual-emitting lanthanide metal-organic framework (Eu0.07Gd0.03-MOF) that serves as a ratiometric sensor, demonstrating high sensitivity in detecting Fe3+ and ascorbic acid with color change detection. The material maintains structural stability and fluorescence intensity in water and various pH solutions, enabling it to accurately estimate low concentrations of Fe3+ and ascorbic acid.
