Doping transition metal in PdSeO3 atomic layers by aqueous cation exchange: A new doping protocol for a new 2D photocatalyst

Xiuming Zhang et al.

Summary: Elemental doping confined in atomically-thin 2D semiconductors can be achieved through cation exchange reaction, offering a new protocol for engineering photocatalysts. The study demonstrates the incorporation of Mn(II) dopants into PdSeO3 2ALs through topological cation exchange, resulting in enhanced photocatalytic oxidation reactions. This approach shows promise in producing manifold 2D confined-doping photocatalysts without perturbing the semiconductor hosts' thickness, morphology, and crystal structure.

Simultaneous harnessing of hot electrons and hot holes achieved via n-metal-p Janus plasmonic heteronanocrystals

Xiaodong Wan et al.

Summary: Plasmonic hybrid nanostructures have great potential in energy conversion materials for photocatalysis, photovoltaics, and photodetectors. Constructing nanostructures that can simultaneously harness hot electrons and hot holes has been a challenge, but by creating binary energy flow channels across plasmonic/semiconductor interfaces, it is possible to exploit plasmonic hot carriers. This approach has been demonstrated in the fabrication of n-M-p heteronanocrystals, which show atomically organized interfaces and exhibit superior performance in photocatalytic CO2 reduction.

Electronic Engineering of ABO3 Perovskite Metal Oxides Based on d 0 Electronic-Configuration Metallic Ions toward Photocatalytic Water Splitting under Visible Light

Yunfeng Bao et al.

Summary: Particulate photocatalytic water splitting is a promising and low-cost method for green hydrogen production. Developing a semiconductor photocatalyst with a wide visible light response and high charge transfer velocity is crucial. Metal oxides based on d(0) configuration metal ions, particularly those with perovskite structure, show potential for photocatalytic water splitting. However, challenges include limited UV light response and flexible valence state of metal cations. This review focuses on electronic engineering strategies for addressing these issues and discusses the construction of photocatalytic overall water splitting systems.
