Maximizing electrochemical hydrogen peroxide production from oxygen reduction with superaerophilic electrodes

Guangsen Xia et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of electrode wettability on H2O2 production during electrolysis with superaerophilic electrodes. The results show that maintaining a stable underwater Wenzel-Cassie state is critical for maximizing H2O2 electrosynthesis efficiency, as it enhances oxygen transfer and inhibits H2O2 reduction. On the other hand, the underwater Wenzel state leads to decreased H2O2 production due to slow oxygen diffusion and enhanced H2O2 reduction at the wetted electrode.

In situ electrogeneration and activation of H2O2 by atomic Fe catalysts for the efficient removal of chloramphenicol

Xiaozhe Song et al.

Summary: The study introduces a new strategy for electron-Fenton-like process with in situ H2O2 production using bifunctional catalysts with Fe atoms introduced into defect-enriched graphene sheets (Fe/NDG). The Fe/N-DG catalysts exhibit superior mass activity and H2O2 selectivity, even under extreme pH conditions, showing promising potential for antibiotic wastewater treatment. The Fe1/N-DG catalyst with a predominant Fe-N structure demonstrates the best catalytic performance for chloramphenicol removal, providing new insights into atomic Fe-based catalysts for environmental applications.

Yunting Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrated that MOFs-derived Cu/N-C can serve as a highly efficient catalyst for two-electron ORR, producing H2O2 and OH simultaneously for pollutant degradation. Through physical characterization and electrochemical analysis, the Cu/N-C catalyst showed superior ORR performance and long-term stability. The synergetic effect between dispersed copper and nitrogen groups contributes to the enhanced two-electron ORR properties.

Dongli Guo et al.

Summary: A silicate-enhanced flow-through electro-Fenton system with a nanoconfined catalyst was designed and demonstrated for efficient, rapid, and selective degradation of antibiotic tetracycline. The system utilized Fe2O3 nanoparticle filled carbon nanotube filter to generate in situ H2O2 and convert it to reactive oxygen species for degradation. The presence of silicate electrolyte significantly boosted H2O2 yield and the flow-through configuration offered improved degradation kinetics compared to conventional batch reactors.

Simultaneously enhanced degradation of N, N-dimethylacetamide and reduced formation of iron sludge by an efficient electrolysis catalyzed ozone process in the presence of dissolved silicate

Zhaokun Xiong et al.

Summary: In this study, a system using dissolved silicate as the electrolyte in iron-based electrochemical techniques showed clear effluent and prevented iron sludge generation, with a higher rate of DMAC degradation compared to other systems. An inhibition film on the iron electrode surface played a key role in preventing excess corrosion and catalyzing ozone decomposition. Hydroxyl radical was identified as the dominant factor in DMAC degradation in the ECO-Na2SiO3 system.
