Landslide monitoring and runout hazard assessment by integrating multi-source remote sensing and numerical models: an application to the Gold Basin landslide complex, northern Washington

Yuankun Xu et al.

Summary: The study of the Gold Basin landslide in Washington state involved remote sensing and numerical modeling to monitor recent landslide activity and simulate hypothetical runout scenarios. The findings showed that localized collapses at the headscarps were the primary type of landslide activity, with simulations suggesting that debris flows with volumes over 10(6) m(3) could pose severe threats to the campground. The estimated maximum landslide volume of 2.0 x 10(6) m(3) indicates a potential risk to the campground nearby.

Long-term retrospective investigation of a large, deep-seated, and slow-moving landslide using InSAR time series, historical aerial photographs, and UAV data: The case of Devrek landslide (NW Turkey)

Remzi Eker et al.

Summary: This study successfully combined Synthetic Aperture Radar data, unmanned aerial vehicle images, and aerial photographs to conduct a long-term retrospective investigation of a large and destructive deep-seated, slow-moving landslide reactivated in Devrek District, Turkey. The investigation revealed a history of landslide issues in the region since the 1940s, as well as observed expansion of settlement towards the toe of the landslide over the past few decades. By integrating different remote sensing technologies, the study may facilitate the development of plans and strategies for preventing and mitigating potential landslide reactivations in the future.

Quantification of permafrost creep provides kinematic evidence for classifying a puzzling periglacial landform

Yan Hu et al.

Summary: This study quantitatively characterized the spatial and temporal changes of a group of periglacial landforms in the East Kunlun Mountains of China using satellite Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar. The results show that these landforms are debris-mantled-slope-connected rock glaciers, driven by deep-seated permafrost creep, and exhibit activity mainly from May to October with surface movement patterns consistent with typical rock glaciers.

Long-Term Continuously Updated Deformation Time Series From Multisensor InSAR in Xi'an, China From 2007 to 2021

Baohang Wang et al.

Summary: The article discusses the continuous monitoring of land subsidence in Xi'an, China using synthetic aperture radar interferometry. The study shows that land subsidence has slowed in some areas while upliftment has been observed in other areas, indicating potential geohazard risks. The proposed approach using multisensor InSAR can provide near-real-time deformation measurements necessary for an early warning system.
