Design of bi-pyrene functionalized oxacalixarene probe for ratiometric detection of Fe3+ and PO43- ions

Manoj Vora et al.

Summary: A highly efficient bifunctional probe DPyOC based on pyrene-linked oxacalixarene architecture has been synthesized, showing selective recognition towards Fe3+ ions and further utilized for phosphate sensing applications. Energy transfer between HOMO and LUMO during binding of Fe3+ ions was investigated by DFT studies.

Metal-coordinated fluorescent and luminescent probes for reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS)

Nahyun Kwon et al.

Summary: Reactive oxygen species (ROS) and reactive nitrogen species (RNS) play crucial roles in human life, but overproduction can lead to cell damage and diseases. Researchers have developed fluorescent and luminescent probes based on metal-coordinated systems to detect and image these active species, providing valuable tools for studying their roles in signaling and pathology.

Ground-state intramolecular proton transfer and observation of high energy tautomer in 1,4-Dihydroxyanthraquinone

Hari P. Upadhyaya

Summary: In this study, temperature dependent steady state UV/vis absorption technique is combined with ab initio calculations to investigate the ground-state intramolecular proton transfer process in quinizarin. The higher energy tautomer for quinizarin, 9,10-dihydroxy-1,4-anthraquinone, is identified to be around 7.7 kcal/mol higher in energy. The experimental Gibbs free energy of the equilibrium between two tautomers is evaluated to be 4.5 +/- 1.5 kcal/mol.

Indicator displacement assays (IDAs): the past, present and future

Adam C. Sedgwick et al.

Summary: Indicator displacement assays (IDAs) offer a unique and innovative approach to molecular sensing, with advantages including low cost, high sensitivity, and high-throughput automation analysis. IDAs can facilitate the detection of a range of biologically/environmentally important species, provide a method for the detection of complex analytes or for the determination and discrimination of unknown sample mixtures. The simplicity and versatility of IDAs have led to their widespread use in molecular sensing, alongside other common approaches such as reaction-based sensors and chemosensors.
