Pentosan polysulfate in patients with bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis with Hunner's lesions or glomerulations: systematic review and meta-analysis

Bagrat Grigoryan et al.

Summary: The study evaluates the efficacy and safety of pentosan polysulfate (PPS) in patients with BPS/IC through systematic review and meta-analysis. The results showed that oral PPS treatment had a statistically significant effect over placebo on the subjective improvement of patients with BPS/IC, but no significant difference was found between PPS and other treatment options. Additionally, intravesical PPS regimen did not have a significant impact on response rates, with no severe side effects reported in included studies.

Risk-of-bias VISualization (robvis): An R package and Shiny web app for visualizing risk-of-bias assessments

Luke A. McGuinness et al.

Summary: Despite the availability of numerous software options for evidence synthesis, there is currently no universal tool for generating figures to display and explore risk-of-bias assessments. However, tools such as the R programming environment and Shiny have made it easy to create new tools for producing evidence syntheses. The new tool robvis facilitates the rapid production of publication-quality risk-of-bias assessment figures and is available as an R package and web app.

Current status of oral pentosan polysulphate in bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis

Rajesh Taneja

Summary: Oral pentosan polysulfate (PPS) has been used in the treatment of bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis for nearly 35 years, with most studies showing clear benefits for patients. While there are some conflicting results in recent research, overall, PPS remains a useful pharmacological agent for treating BPS/IC.

Current standard of care in treatment of bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis

Sabela Rodriguez Lopez et al.

Summary: Bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis is a debilitating pain syndrome with unclear etiology, potentially related to factors such as mast cell activation, defects in the glycosaminoglycan layer, and neurogenic inflammation. Available treatment options are diverse but often lack high-level evidence support.
