Non-classical energy squeezing of a macroscopic mechanical oscillator

X. Ma et al.

Summary: In this study, non-classical states are created by quadratically coupling motion to the energy levels of a Cooper-pair box qubit. The mechanical oscillator is dissipatively stabilized in a state with a large mean phonon number and sub-Poissonian number fluctuations, showing a striking feature of the quadratic coupling: the recoil of the mechanical oscillator caused by qubit transitions.

Electrically Driven Microcavity Exciton-Polariton Optomechanics at 20 GHz

Alexander S. Kuznetsov et al.

Summary: In this work, a novel platform based on the coupling of microcavity exciton polaritons and electrically driven super-high-frequency (SHF) longitudinal acoustic phonons is introduced for coherent SHF optomechanics. The platform leverages the long coherence time of polaritons and their efficient coupling to phonons, achieving huge modulation amplitudes and frequency products for phonon control and light-to-sound-to-rf conversion. The bidirectionality of the transducers and the large phonon frequencies enable phonon control with optical readout down to the single-particle regime at relatively high temperatures.

Quantum fluids of light in all-optical scatterer lattices

S. Alyatkin et al.

Summary: This study explores the optical manipulation of exciton-polariton systems in Lieb lattices, revealing a nonequilibrium phase transition between scatterer lattice and trapped polariton condensates. By fine tuning lattice parameters, the researchers demonstrate the behavior of polaritons condensing in different potential regimes, paving the way for further exploration of non-Hermitian fluids in non-stationary mixtures.

Quadratic optomechanical cooling of a cavity-levitated nanosphere

N. P. Bullier et al.

Summary: In this study, cooling of center-of-mass motion of a nanoparticle via coupling with the optical field within a high finesse cavity is reported. The resulting coupling is purely quadratic in displacement and results in van der Pol nonlinear damping. Experimental results show that the energy distribution is strongly nonthermal and can be controlled by the nonlinear damping induced by the cavity. This work demonstrates a cavity cooling dominated by this type of coupling across all optomechanical platforms.
