Unconventional Superconductivity in Systems with Annular Fermi Surfaces: Application to Rhombohedral Trilayer Graphene

Areg Ghazaryan et al.

Summary: In a two-dimensional electron gas with an annular Fermi surface, long-range Coulomb interactions can lead to unconventional superconductivity through the Kohn-Luttinger mechanism. Superconductivity is significantly enhanced when the inner and outer Fermi surfaces are close, with the prevailing state having chiral p-wave symmetry. These results are discussed in the context of recent discoveries of superconductivity in rhombohedral trilayer graphene with an annular Fermi surface.

Half- and quarter-metals in rhombohedral trilayer graphene

Haoxin Zhou et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate the spontaneous ferromagnetic polarization in rhombohedral trilayer graphene driven by gate-tuned van Hove singularities. Through capacitance and transport measurements, a cascade of transitions tuned to density and electronic displacement field are observed. The results show that rhombohedral graphene is an ideal platform for controlled tests of many-body theory, revealing the fundamentally itinerant nature of magnetism in moire materials.

Control of Giant Topological Magnetic Moment and Valley Splitting in Trilayer Graphene

Zhehao Ge et al.

Summary: Trilayer graphene with Bernal stacking is found to have topological magnetic moments with a large and widely tunable valley g factor, which can be utilized for creating valleytronic devices. The experimental results match well with the theoretical modeling, demonstrating the potential of controlling TLG bands under perpendicular electric and magnetic fields.
