Neuromorphic bioelectronics based on semiconducting polymers

High-Performance Non-Volatile Flash Photomemory via Highly Oriented Quasi-2D Perovskite

Light-Stimulated Synaptic Transistor with High PPF Feature for Artificial Visual Perception System Application

All-in-one metal-oxide heterojunction artificial synapses for visual sensory and neuromorphic computing systems

Summary: This work demonstrates an all-in-one artificial synapse integrating central nervous and sensory nervous functions utilizing low-dimensional metal-oxide heterojunction. By employing an ion-electrolyte gate, synaptic emulations modulated by electrical and photonic stimulus are integrated into a high-performance three-terminal artificial synapse. Various long-term and short-term synaptic plasticity functions can be achieved by altering the electrolyte-gate stimulus parameters. The emulated synaptic plasticity and maintained synaptic weight states enable the artificial synapses for neuromorphic computing. An artificial neural network based on these artificial synapses achieves Covid-19 chest image recognition (>85%). The photo-sensitive metal-oxide heterojunction enables the synaptic functions mimicking the biological visual sensory functions, responding to optical and UV stimulus. Photonic synaptic plasticity modulations responding to photonic stimulus parameters are investigated, and short-term/long-term synaptic plasticity transition is achieved. Furthermore, the dual-mode synaptic modulation combining photonic stimulus and gate stimulus is examined. Finally, an artificial neural network is demonstrated based on the dual-mode synaptic weight modulation, indicating the potential of the artificial synapse for compact artificial intelligence systems combining neuromorphic computing and visual sensory nervous functions.
