Zr(IV)-based metal-organic framework nanocomposites with enhanced peroxidase-like activity as a colorimetric sensing platform for sensitive detection of hydrogen peroxide and phenol

Junning Wang et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that improving the peroxidase-like activity of MOFs can be achieved through a size reduction strategy, and Zr-based MOFs have been successfully synthesized with a reduced crystal size to enhance catalytic activity. The synthesized Zr-MOF-PVP nanocomposites showed significantly enhanced peroxidase-like activity and were successfully applied in colorimetric detection and model analyte detection using H2O2 and phenol. This work provides a new perspective for improving the catalytic activity of nanozymes and has promising applications in peroxidase-related detection.

Synthesis and characterization of novel copper(II) complexes as potential drug candidates against SARS-CoV-2 main protease

Sunil Kumar et al.

Summary: In this study, two novel copper Schiff base complexes were designed, synthesized, and characterized, with their crystal structures, DFT calculations, and Hirshfeld surface analyses revealing the structure-property relationship. In silico docking studies against SARS-CoV-2 virus showed that the copper complexes have the potential to bind to viral proteins effectively, suggesting their possible role as drug candidates against SARS-CoV-2.

Identification of Fe(III)-OH species as a catalytic intermediate in plant peroxidases at high H2O2 concentration

Rodolfo G. Valle-Altamirano et al.

Summary: The structural determinants responsible for the instability of plant peroxidases towards H2O2 are still unknown. In this study, the formation and decay of compound III, which is generated from the reaction of the catalytically productive radical Fe(IV) =O species with excess H2O2, were investigated. The characterization results suggest that the structure of compound III is more similar to the hydroxyl form of other heme proteins rather than the previously suggested peroxyferryl form.

MIL-100(Fe) Metal-Organic Framework Nanospheres Embedded in Graphene Matrixes for Xanthine Fluorescence Sensing

Mingqi Xu et al.

Summary: The study successfully fabricated MIL-100(Fe)/three-dimensional graphene (3DG) nanocomposites to address the issue of hindered formation of MOF-100(Fe) on two-dimensional graphene oxide. These nanocomposites showed higher peroxidase-like catalytic activities than pure MIL-100(Fe), with MIL-3DG75 exhibiting the best performance for detecting xanthine. This enhanced catalytic efficiency allowed for a rapid and efficient colorimetric detection strategy for xanthine.
