Effective action of string theory at order α′ in the presence of boundary

Mohammad R. Garousi

Summary: In this study, the classical on-shell effective action of the bosonic string theory at order alpha' in a spacetime manifold without boundary has been reproduced by imposing the O(1, 1) symmetry when the background has a circle. The presence of a boundary and a circle in the background can be fixed by O(1, 1) symmetry without using the lowest order equation of motion. Furthermore, constraints from the least action principle in the presence of boundary can determine the boundary action parameters.

Surface terms in effective action of O-plane at order α′2

Yasser Akou et al.

Summary: In this paper, the classical effective action of the O-plane and its corresponding boundary terms in type II superstring theories at order alpha ' 2 and for NS-NS couplings are investigated using constraints of gauge transformations and string duality transformations. It is found that these constraints fix the bulk action and its corresponding boundary terms up to one overall factor, while also producing three multiplets in the boundary action with coefficients independent of the bulk couplings under string dualities.

On NS-NS couplings at order α′3

Mohammad R. Garousi

Summary: This study investigates the NS-NS couplings of type II superstring theories at order alpha'(3) by imposing gauge-symmetry and T-duality constraints, resulting in a reduction of couplings from 445 to 251 in 15 to 9 different structures. The newly identified couplings are shown to be consistent with the sphere-level S-matrix element of four NS-NS vertex operators.

Effective action of type II superstring theories at order α′3: NS-NS couplings

Mohammad R. Garousi

Summary: It has been shown that the minimum number of gauge invariant couplings for B-field, metric and dilaton at order alpha ' (3) is 872, appearing in 55 different structures. Parameters in type II superstring theories can be fixed by reducing the couplings on a circle to be invariant under T-duality transformations. There are 445 non-zero couplings found in 15 different structures, consistent with partial couplings found in literature.

O(25,25) symmetry of bosonic string theory at order α′2

Mohammad R. Garousi

Summary: The paper explores the effects of circle reduction and cosmological reduction on the action, concluding that the action can be expressed in the O(25, 25)-invariant form proposed by Hohm and Zwiebach, with one-dimensional field redefinitions and total derivative terms accounted for.

O(9,9) symmetry of NS-NS couplings at order α′3

Mohammad R. Garousi

Summary: This paper explores the relationship between symmetry and couplings in string theory, demonstrating the invariance of the couplings under O(9,9) transformations through cosmological reduction. This research provides valuable insights into the properties of NS-NS couplings in type II superstring theories.
