Josephson effects in twisted cuprate bilayers

Tarun Tummuru et al.

Summary: This paper investigates Josephson phenomena between twisted cuprate layers and identifies clear signatures of the topological phase through the temperature dependence of critical current and the measurement in the presence of an applied magnetic field or radiofrequency drive. The results provide insights into the nature of topological phases in high-Tc cuprate superconductors.

Quantum anomalous Hall effect from intertwined moire bands

Tingxin Li et al.

Summary: This study reveals the observation of quantum anomalous Hall effect in AB-stacked MoTe2/WSe2 moire heterobilayers, which exhibits unique band topology characteristics. At half band filling, quantized Hall resistance and vanishing longitudinal resistance are observed, indicating a topological phase transition induced by an out-of-plane electric field.

Fractional Chern insulators in magic-angle twisted bilayer graphene

Yonglong Xie et al.

Summary: Fractional Chern insulators (FCIs) are lattice analogues of fractional quantum Hall states and have been recently observed in magic-angle twisted BLG at low magnetic field. The appearance of these states at 5 T is accompanied by the disappearance of nearby topologically trivial charge density wave states.

Probing Time Reversal Symmetry Breaking Topological Superconductivity in Twisted Double Layer Copper Oxides with Polar Kerr Effect

Oguzhan Can et al.

Summary: Recent theoretical work predicted the emergence of a chiral topological superconducting phase with spontaneously broken time reversal symmetry in a twisted bilayer composed of two high-Tc cuprate monolayers such as Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+delta. A large intrinsic Hall response identified in this study through polar Kerr effect measurement can serve as a convenient signature of the T-broken phase. Modeling predicts a Kerr angle theta(K) range significantly larger than that of the leading chiral superconductor candidate Sr2RuO4, and optical Hall conductivity can distinguish between different topological phases present in the phase diagram.

Presence of s-Wave Pairing in Josephson Junctions Made of Twisted Ultrathin Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x Flakes

Yuying Zhu et al.

Summary: Researchers revisited the c-axis experiment by fabricating Josephson junctions with atomic-level control in their interface structure. Results consistently support the scenario of a persistent s-wave order parameter in the junction, suggesting that the atomic details at the junction determine the Josephson tunneling process regardless of the twist angle.

Origin of the anomalous Hall effect in two-band chiral superconductors

M. D. E. Denys et al.

Summary: By utilizing the Kubo formalism, we derived an analytical expression for the high-frequency ac Hall conductivity, involving two distinct gauge-invariant time-reversal-odd bilinear functions related to the pairing potential and its Hermitian conjugate. The existence of at least one of these functions typically implies a nonzero ac Hall conductivity. These functions help clarify the roles of intra- and interband pairing, and provide a simple criterion for a superconducting state to exhibit the anomalous Hall effect.
