Inconsistency of islands in theories with long-range gravity

Hao Geng et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the potential problems of islands in standard theories of massless gravity. Islands are entanglement wedges disconnected from the asymptotic region, and in some known examples, the tension with the gravitational law is resolved by the presence of massive gravitons. Additionally, the authors derive some consistency conditions that islands in decoupled systems must satisfy.

Narain to Narnia

Nathan Benjamin et al.

Summary: The study generalizes the holographic correspondence between topological gravity and abelian Chern-Simons theory in three dimensions, showing that the central charge must equal the critical central charge defined by the chiral algebra. For toroidal orbifolds, the holographic correspondence is extended to correlation functions of twist operators.

Non-perturbative renormalization for the neural network-QFT correspondence

H. Erbin et al.

Summary: The paper proposes a description of neural networks using Wilsonian effective field theory and investigates its concepts of locality and power-counting. It improves the perturbative Wilsonian renormalization with the non-perturbative renormalization group analysis. The analysis reveals that changing the standard deviation of NN weight distribution corresponds to a renormalization flow in the network space.

Free partition functions and an averaged holographic duality

Nima Afkhami-Jeddi et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the torus partition functions of free bosonic CFTs in two dimensions, showing that integrating over Narain moduli defines an ensemble-averaged free CFT and the averaged partition function can be reinterpreted as a sum over topologies in three dimensions. This leads to the conjecture that an averaged free CFT in two dimensions is holographically dual to an exotic theory of three-dimensional gravity with U(1)(c)xU(1)(c) symmetry and a composite boundary graviton. Additionally, general constraints on the spectral gap of free CFTs are obtained for small central charge c, Narain compactifications with a large gap are constructed, and an analytic bootstrap functional corresponding to a single self-dual boson is found using the spinning modular bootstrap.

Islands and Page curves in 4d from Type IIB

Christoph F. Uhlemann

Summary: Variants of the black hole information paradox are studied in setups of Type IIB string theory realizing four-dimensional gravity coupled to a bath. Through fully backreacted solutions for configurations of D3, D5 and NS5 branes, along with their dual descriptions as N = 4 SYM and 3d T-rho(sigma)[SU(N)] SCFTs, island contributions to the entanglement entropy of black hole radiation systems have been identified, leading to Page curves. Analogous to the critical angles found in the Karch/Randall models, critical parameters in the brane configurations and dual field theories are identified in the 10-dimensional context.

The holographic conformal manifold of 3d N=2 S-fold SCFTs

Nikolay Bobev et al.

Summary: A two-parameter family of AdS(4) J-fold solutions with N=2 supersymmetry is constructed using non-compact gauging of four-dimensional maximal supergravity, preserving u(1) x u(1) global symmetry. These solutions can be uplifted to type IIB string theory and are holographically dual to a conformal manifold of three-dimensional S-fold SCFTs. The study examines how the operator spectrum of the SCFT depends on exactly marginal couplings using the spectrum of supergravity excitations of the AdS(4) solutions.

Marginal deformations from type IIA supergravity

Nikolay Bobev et al.

Summary: The study focuses on marginal deformations of three-dimensional N=2 SCFTs with a holographic dual description in massive type IIA supergravity. The dimension of the conformal manifold in these SCFTs is computed, and a special submanifold with enhanced flavor symmetry is identified. The TsT transformation of Lunin-Maldacena is utilized to construct explicit supersymmetric AdS(4) solutions, and a brief comment is made on a class of RG flows between some of these SCFTs that also have a holographic realization.

Statistical coupling constants from hidden sector entanglement

Vijay Balasubramanian et al.

Summary: String theory predicts that the couplings of nature are derived from dynamical fields and may have extra sectors. Tracing over extra sectors can result in the visible sector being in a mixed state, with seemingly irreducible variance in coupling constants. By including this variance in experimental data fits, it can help distinguish scenarios and expand the reach for new physics by considering the interplay between energy range and precision of experiments.

Overcounting of interior excitations: a resolution to the bags of gold paradox in AdS

Joydeep Chakravarty

Summary: This work investigates how single-sided and eternal black holes can contain a vast number of semiclassical excitations in their interior, proposing a new solution to resolve the paradox in entropy. By describing the interior of black holes in Hilbert space, the resolution of the paradox arising from the orthogonal relationships between these excitations is provided.
