Salvia hispanica L. (chia) seed promotes body fat depletion and modulates adipocyte lipid handling in sucrose-rich diet-fed rats

Maria Eugenia Oliva et al.

Summary: This study found that supplementation with chia seed can reduce abdominal and thoracic circumferences, carcass fat content, adipose tissue weights, and visceral adiposity index in rats fed with a sucrose-rich diet. Furthermore, it improved insulin sensitivity and plasma lipid profile. The reduction in fat cell triglyceride content and activities of fat synthesis enzymes in epididymal adipose tissue were associated with the modulation of essential pathways of lipid metabolism by chia seed supplementation.

Effects of Salvia hispanica L. (chia) seed on blood coagulation, endothelial dysfunction and liver fibrosis in an experimental model of Metabolic Syndrome

Maria Eugenia Oliva et al.

Summary: This study aimed to analyze blood coagulation, endothelial dysfunction, and liver fibrosis in a Metabolic Syndrome (MS) model induced by a sucrose-rich diet, and evaluate the effects of chia seed as a therapeutic strategy. The findings suggest that long-term consumption of a sucrose-rich diet can lead to dyslipidemia, insulin resistance, and liver fibrosis, while chia seed supplementation showed potential in reversing these effects and reducing disease risk.

Allopurinol ameliorates liver injury in type 1 diabetic rats through activating Nrf2

Fei Zeng et al.

Summary: Hyperglycemia-induced oxidative stress plays important roles in the development of NAFLD in diabetic patients. Treatment with ALP may attenuate diabetic liver injury by activating the Nrf2/p62 pathway. These findings were confirmed in both in vivo and in vitro experiments.

Curcumin protects radiation-induced liver damage in rats through the NF-κB signaling pathway

Wei Li et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects and inner mechanisms of curcumin in rats with radiation-induced liver damage (RILD). The results demonstrated that curcumin treatment significantly alleviated liver cell damage by inhibiting the NF-kappa B pathway and regulating the expression levels of apoptosis and inflammatory proteins in rats with RILD.
